Leading Skillfully focuses on developing key practices and skills for effective leadership. It presents several key practices of leadership: developing personal skills, developing people skills, developing others, resolving conflict, leading with vision, leading strategically, and leading change.


Author: Tim Elmore
Tim Elmore is the Vice President of EQUIP, a non-profit organization founded by John Maxwell. He has committed his life to equipping and investing in emerging leaders around the globe. Tim has been a pastor at two churches, a vice president at two organizations, and an adjunct professor at a variety of universities. He has authored numerous books on leadership and equipping. He has received a BA in Biblical Theology, a Master of Divinity and a Doctor of Ministry. He lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife Pam and their two children.

Main Objective
The object of this module is to provide a toolbox of skills to help ministry leaders develop key practices for effective leadership.

Module Overview
Leading Skillfully focuses on increasing your leadership capacity by developing the tools to lead skillfully. It challenges leaders to develop personal skills, develop people skills, develop others, resolve conflict, lead with vision, lead strategically, and lead change. This module has seven sessions which are all designed to assist in leading skillfully.

Session Description
Session 1:
Developing
Personal Skills

We will introduce the Leading Skillfully module and learn four core skills that personally help a leader to better manage their life and leadership duties, including:
00• two elements of the purpose of the Leading Skillfully module.
00• two aspects of setting priorities.
00• six stages of the decision-making process.
00• four principles for solving problems.
00• how to effectively utilize a five-step communication process.

Session 2:
Developing
People Skills

We will understand how leaders can develop biblically-rooted people skills, including:
00• two reasons for the need for people skills.
00• three virtues that are foundational for people skills.
00• two aspects of developing reflective listening skills.
00• ten practical insights to people skills.

Session 3:
Developing Others

We will learn how to become more effective at developing others , including:
00• three New Testament examples of the biblical mandate to develop others.
00• five reasons why leaders do not develop others.
00• four aspects of how to develop others in real-life situations.
00• ten steps in the process of how to develop others.

Session 4:
Resolving
Conflict

We will learn how leaders effectively resolve conflict, including:
00• three keys to attaining a healthy perspective of conflict.
00• two aspects of the biblical mandate to confront conflicts.
00• five typical source of conflict and how to help prevent them.
00• five stages of a conflict cycle.
00• six aspects of Paul's pattern for conflict resolution.
Session 5:
Leading
With Vision
We will understand the importance of a leader' s ability to cast vision and understand the tools to effectively communicated the vision, including:
00• state our definition of "vision."
00• five components of a God-given vision.
00• five stages in the birth of a vision.
00• seven steps in the process of fulfilling a vision.
00• eight steps to communicating the vision.
Session 6:
Leading Strategically
We will understand how to think and function more strategically so leaders may successfully implement their ministry plans, including:
00• two key aspects of strategic thinking.
00• eight characteristics of strategic leaders.
00• two aspects of planning strategically.
  00• six skills needed by strategic leaders.
00• three ways a leader models good stewardship.

Session 7:
Leading
Change


We will understand the dynamics of change so leaders can effectively initiate and implement change, including:
00• three biblical examples that support the basis for change.
00• six characteristics of a change agent.
00• the phases of organizational growth.
00• five categories of how people embrace change.
00• eight steps in the change process.
